the most devastating story I have witnessed in my life.
our community is in shock, enraged, in deep deep pain and sorrow for this accident and loss of young people. my family is mourning the loss of Rose, my daughters big sister. she was only 15 years old. 3 other teens died in this accident and 1 is in critical condition. the drunk driver walked away with minor injuries.
My daughter and I love to take a walk in the evening - the railyard is still one of our favorite places to walk through. They are doing lots of construction there these days - new buildings surrounding this precious old train station. I love that it's still very quiet around town at this time of the day and we only saw a couple of strangers and engineers there today.
I have heard some things from strangers lately that crack me up...
at a local bar -
man I don't know - hey, you have nice teeth
me - thank you
man I don't know - are they real?
me - I think so
on the sidewalk walking to town -
man I don't know - hola, como estas?
me - bien
man I don't know - where's your motorcycle?
man talking to himself -
you need to fix yourself up white man
a man I don't really know but pass several times a week on the sidewalk -
as he approaches he says "hello" and just after he passes me he says "good bye"
Last night was REALLY cold here in Santa Fe and downtown was pretty quiet - but my friend Tim was still spinning some fun at the Matador. One of my favorite conversations was about the graffiti in the bathrooms. The womens door is covered with words about Jesus and Bush...the mens has very few words and one of them (all by itself on the door) is "penis".
This is not the first snow, but it is the first snow to stick. It's been raining for days (LOVE the rain) and this afternoon it changed from rain to snow. When I open my front door, I see the House of Booze (used to be Andys Liquors - new owner/new name) and just look at those cars...people stocking up for the cold cold night ahead. mmm, perfect night for a hot toddy.
So I went to this show last night with Tim, Ann and Lauren. We got there a little early and we were all really hungry, so we went around the corner to have some food. We ate WAY too much at Willies Blues Bar, had a beer and made our way back to the show. Well, I couldn't freakin believe it but we missed Panther. They went on first and must have played for 15-20 minutes MAX. That threw us off...that was the band we were most interrested in. Glass Candy played next and they blew my mind. These kids turned the place into a hipster aerobics class. I liked it - they were much more focused than Architecure in Helsinki. I have heard good things about that band, but they were all over the place with too many ideas and too many band memebers. We left before they finished and had a beer at Mollys. The only other people at Mollys last night were 3 different couples making out in corners of the bar. We took a booth in the middle and talked about the show & how to flirt. It was a good night.
